I am the Community Reporter assigned to the Yorkshire Evening Post as part of the Community News Partnership between Meta, the NCTJ and local newsrooms. I have spent my whole life in Leeds and joined the team in the last quarter of 2022 after graduating in BSc Psychology with First Class Honours. I am currently undertaking my NCTJ qualification.
This specific role is designed to cover stories from underrepresented communities. At the YEP, I seek stories from these communities (ethnic minorities, those with disabilities, asylum seekers and refugees, and more) as well as stories from more deprived areas of Leeds (such as Harehills, Beeston, Chapeltown, and Burmantofts).
Earlier this year, I took over the Real Lives feature which has enabled me to meet some of the extraordinary people in the city. This weekly feature is what I describe as an intimate conversation between an individual and our readers and I am striving to diversify the content as much as possible. Some of my favourite pieces since taking on the Real Lives content include features on an award-winning deaf writer and producer, a woman fighting to end FGM, and a refugee camp volunteer.
I am also a lover of Asian cuisine and coffee, travel and train rides, films and TV shows.
