Days Out: Space pod comes to York's National Railway Museum
The National Railway Museum celebrates over 300 years of history and hosts one million objects that have changed the way we live – and it’s totally free to explore the fantastic collections.
You can spend hours wandering amongst the enormous engines and there are miles of shining chrome and brass to admire, all set in an accessible open plan design.

Hide AdLearn about the design and fashions in locomotives and how it’s evolved over the centuries – with the earliest examples in their collecting bolts, chimneys and wrought iron.
Fast forward to the early 19th Century and they’re more like rocket ships on rails.
The warehouse is filled with objects and artefacts from the history and there’s a miniature railway for children as well as an adventure play area too.
Before you leave, make sure to take some refreshments in the museum’s totally unique restaurants – a Victorian inspired ‘dining car’, or a 1920s lounge.
