The Leeds United director of football claims nobody could have predicted Azzedine Ounahi’s emergence as a breakout star at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year

Orta claims the Moroccan international, who was instrumental in their run to the semi-finals and is currently being touted for a £40 million January transfer, may never perform at a similar level again, based on the context surrounding his World Cup displays and his own experience scouting the player.

22-year-old midfielder Ounahi currently plays his football with French side Angers and as recently as 2021, was playing in the third tier with Avranches. Orta claims his network of scouts at Leeds have been following the World Cup semi-finalist for two years, after being approached about the player by chairman Andrea Radrizzani.
