Former Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook is on the verge of another international medal after captaining England to the final of the Under-20 World Cup.

The 20-year-old starred with a consummate performance as England reached the final of the competition for the first time by coming from behind to secure an impressive 3-1 semi-final victory over Italy in South Korea.

Riccardo Orsolini put Italy in front with a composed finish inside two minutes before England’s dominance eventually paid off as two goals from Liverpool-bound striker Dominic Solanke and an Ademola Lookman strike in the final 25 minutes secured their place in Sunday’s final against Venezuela.

Solanke equalised after half-time, converting the rebound after Sheyi Ojo’s effort was parried, and Lookman turned the game on its head with a close-range finish 11 minutes later.

The match became more open as Azzurri pushed men forward in search of a late equaliser and England secured their final place three minutes from time when Solanke tried his luck from long range.

Cook, who Leeds sold to Bournemouth for around £6m last summer, was part of the England side which won the European Under-17s Championship in 2014, a few months before the midfielder earned his first-team breakthrough at Elland Road.
