SPRING is nearly upon us '“ and that's blooming marvellous news as far as Abigail Bedford-Briggs is concerned.

The four-year-old, from Wakefield, enjoyed a fun-packed day out yesterday in Roundhay Park, where the crocuses offer colourful proof that a change of season is just around the corner.

Spring in the astronomical sense does not get under way until March 20.

The meteorological season of spring, however, begins tomorrow and runs until May 31. A meteorological calendar divides the year into four seasons which last exactly three months each, making it easier for forecasters and other weather experts to compare and analyse seasonal and monthly statistics.
